Aiello says he's sticking with Audi

Laurent Aiello says he plans to stick with the Abt Sportsline Audi TT-R squad in the DTM next season as long as the Audi factory gives the team all the support it asks for over the winter - according to this week's AUTOSPORT magazine

The Frenchman says he turned down the chance of switching to Opel for 2002.

"We were in touch with Opel about next year but our plan is to stay with Audi," said Aiello. "Last year we missed out on a lot of testing. This year it is going to have to be a lot different if we are going to fight Mercedes for the championship, because we have a lot of work to do before the first race."

Aiello ended the season in fifth place in the championship. He said it is paramount that the team improves the car as much as possible before the start of next season.

"Just look at Opel this year," he said. "They had a very bad season after a good year in 2000. We have to make sure that doesn't happen to our team. We're going to have to try everything necessary if we're going to win the title."
