Aiello is gunning for Merc and Opel

Former Le Mans 24 Hours winner and British Touring Car Champion Laurent Aiello believes that Abt Sportsline can overcome the might of the works Mercedes and Opel squads next season

The Frenchman, who won two DTM races for the team last year, has again been loaned to Abt Sportsline from Audi AG, with whom he has just extended his contract.

Aiello finished fifth in last year's championship, but he had to miss out on one race while he finished second for Audi at Le Mans. Next season will be his third with the Kempten privateers.

"In the past two years, we have grown to create a real community in the team, we have been working hard and have had the reward for it a couple of times already," said Aiello. "Now, we must continue to concentrate all our efforts in order to beat Mercedes and Opel. I am really looking forward to that."

Team boss Hans-Jurgen Abt commented: "Following our strong season, not only my own guys, but the entire Allgau region, is looking forward to the next DTM season. All of us are in for quite something."
