Aiello bids for repeat performance
DTM points leader Laurent Aiello has set his sights on a repeat of his victory at the Hockenheim season-open as the series returns to Zolder in Belgium for the first time since 1994
Aiello led an Abt-Audi one-two at Hockenheim ahead of Swedish team-mate Mattias Ekstrom, and the Frenchman believes he can double his winning tally for 2002 this weekend.
"In Zolder I want to defend my championship lead," he declared. "It has been a long time since I was last at Zolder, but I think the track will suit our car. The surface is very slippery, and it is the first time we are there with the new DTM."
Aiello's team boss is also upbeat about his squad's chances in Belgium, where the nimble Audi TT-R should excel through the tight chicanes and long braking zones.
"In Hockenheim, we already had a car that was sorted very well, so that we only had to work on details", said Abt. "We had an absolute dream start. Now, we want to show that this victory was not a co-incidence."
Zolder last hosted the DTM eight years ago, when former GP star Alessandro Nannini won both races in an Alfa Romeo 155.
