WSR to continue with BMWs

WSR will continue to run BMW machinery in the British Touring Car Championship this year

Dick Bennetts' squad, which won the 2009 drivers' title with Colin Turkington, will field either a two or three car squad of 320si machines, which will again be powered by normally-aspirated BMW Super 2000 engines, rather than NGTC-spec turbo units.

"We are really looking forward to running the BMW's in the BTCC again this year, as they are a very good race car and with the updates being done for 2011 I know we should be in with a chance," said Bennetts. "We will be aiming for regular podiums.

"Rob Collard had a lot of bad luck last year and when we analysed the season, we should have finished a lot higher. We've had the most reliable cars on the grid for a few years now and will be looking to get points in the bag early on whilst some of the others maybe finding their feet with the new regs."

WSR ran Collard to seven podium finishes and eighth place in last year's championship while rookie Andy Neate was 18th overall.

No drivers have been signed for this year's campaign, although Bennetts said that the team was close to announcing two names. Both Collard and CSL Cup front-runner Nick Foster tested for the squad at Brands Hatch last November.

"We're close on signing two drivers and will be announcing some new sponsors in the near future. The third seat is still up for grabs and we're working hard on filling it."
