Turkington on Pole for Race One

Vauxhall driver Colin Turkington took pole position for the first of Knockhill's three BTCC races tomorrow, as the manufacturer searches for its 100th win

Vauxhall currently stands on 98 victories, and would become only the second manufacturer in the sport's history to achieve the landmark.

Turkington achieved pole with the fastest ever lap for a BTCC car around the Fife circuit. It is his third pole position of the season, more than any other driver this season.

Gareth Howell impressively took second position on the grid in his first race in Team Halfords' Honda Integra. Third was Vauxhall's Yvan Muller and fourth the driver he is chasing for the lead of the Championship, Team Halfords' Matt Neal .

"My car has been fast from the very first lap in practice this morning," said Turkington. "It's also great to get pole at Knockhill - it's like a home circuit for me because I studied at Stirling University."

James Pickford set 12th fastest time after his SEAT was repaired following a practice roll.
