Team set to run bio-ethanol Lacettis
A new team is being set up to run a brace of bio-ethanol-powered Chevrolet Lacettis in next year's British Touring Car Championship, this week's Autosport reveals
Team Clyde Valley Racing, who have lined up multiple BTCC race winner Dan Eaves to lead their assault, have been created by Scottish saloon car racer Colin Neill.
Neill, 35, has yet to finalise how the cars will be run, but has put the deal out to tender with existing operations alongside evaluating the possibility of creating a new team to run the cars.
It will be the first time that the Lacetti has run in the BTCC since it was introduced in the World Touring Car Championship last season.
Neill, who has raced on four wheels mainly in his native Scotland since 2003 after switching from competing and running a team in motocross, said: "It's still early days. I've put the team out to tender, but I'm still looking at the possibility of starting the team from the ground up. We're evaluating all angles, but we'll need a decision pretty soon."
His intention is to buy a brace of 2006-specification Lacettis from factory WTCC outfit RML, and he has been in discussion with the Motor Sport Development UK-backed energy Efficient Motorsport body (EEMS) for assistance with converting the power plant to bio-ethanol.
Neill is eager to promote the near-carbon neutral bio-ethanol fuel through the project, and plans to run a series of 'bio-ethanol roadshow' events at BTCC rounds.
A bio-ethanol car already races in the BTCC, run by Tech-Speed Motorsport for Fiona Leggate. The addition of Neill's Chevrolets will be a boost for EEMS, which has been working to promote the use of green fuels in the British series over the past 18 months.
