Harvey enjoys Motorbase BMW run

Tim Harvey enjoyed his BTCC testing comeback after a successful morning's running at Brands Hatch

The 1992 champion, who has not raced in the series for six years, drove a Motorbase BMW around the Indy layout of the Kent circuit, and was delighted with the performance of the car.

"I thoroughly enjoyed myself," Harvey, the current Porsche Carrera Cup champion told . "The car was easy to drive, a little softer than the Super Touring cars I used to race, and it still felt pretty quick.

"I've only driven a BMW touring car briefly over the past few years, when I did a tyre test for Edenbridge, but the last time I raced one was in Asian Touring Cars back in about 1994, so it really got the old juices flowing again."

Despite his obvious enjoyment, Harvey reiterated his stance that he is not planning a full-time return to the BTCC next year.

"If I did that then I'd have to jack in racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup - which I love - and the touring car commentary, and I don't know if I want to do that. I'd say a comeback is highly unlikely," he added.

Motorbase also ran Jonathan Adam, who recently had a run out in a works SEAT Leon TDI at Silverstone as part of his prize for winning a second straight SEAT Cupra Cup title.

Adam, 23, was impressed with the feel of the BMW, and said that it was far easier to adapt to than he had expected.

"Obviously the BMW with its rear-wheel-drive, felt a bit different from the SEAT diesel that I drove at Silverstone, but not as much as I thought it would," he told .

"I had good track time, managed to get a bit of experience with the car, and can't wait to have another go in it tomorrow."

Also running at Brands Hatch were WSR, who had their Team RAC drivers Colin Turkington and Stephen Jelley on hand as well as Dutch BMW 1-series champion Ricardo van der Ende, who was testing for a BTCC team for the first time.
