Gow pleased with first year of S2000
BTCC boss Alan Gow believes that the championship's switch to Super 2000 rules in 2007 was a success
The series had featured cars run to specific regulations for Britain from 2001-2006, but this year it switched fully to the same car specifications used in the World Touring Car Championship, after some Super 2000 cars had raced in the championship since 2004.
Gow said that he was particularly pleased by the size of the entry lists throughout the season, which he feels were boosted by the new regulations.
"S2000 was the right way to go as borne out by the excellent entry list in our first season of using those sporting regulations," said Gow. "I am extremely impressed at how quickly our teams have adapted."
The Australian was also pleased with the decision to allow cars run to BTC-spec regulations to remain in the championship, even if they could not compete for the overall title.
"Our very well-balanced technical regulations have also allowed the BTC-spec cars to remain competitive," he said. "Those cars still offer potential privateers with a very cost-effective way of entering the BTCC."
Gow, who returned to the helm of the series in 2003 after running it from 1991-2000, added that he plans to remain involved in the championship for at least another couple of years.
"I have already pledged my alliance to the BTCC until 2010 at least and I am very proud to be leading this great British championship," he said.
