Gordon Shedden moves in to points lead with Race 2 win at Snetterton
Gordon Shedden moved into the lead of the British Touring Car Championship with his third victory of the season in the second race at Snetterton
As in race one, contact between a works Honda and Chevrolet decided the event. Poleman Plato held off fast-starting Chevy team-mate Alex MacDowall at Riches, but was then got hit wide by Shedden at the tight Montreal right-hander.
As Plato and MacDowall fell to third and fifth, Shedden and Triple 8's James Nash (Vauxhall Vectra) pulled clear, with Shedden edging away until the later stages.
For several laps, Nash had to worry more about Frank Wrathall's Dynojet-run NGTC Toyota Avensis. He had slipped by Plato at Williams on the opening lap and put Nash under pressure.
Nash held firm, however, and as the race wore on Wrathall began to fall back into the clutches of Plato and MacDowall.
Plato eventually forged a way by on the inside of Coram with three laps to go, and MacDowall followed him through.
Wrathall then pulled off on the following tour, allowing Paul O'Neill to make it three Chevrolet Cruzes in the top five with his Tech-Speed example. He had already fought his way past Dave Newsham (Special Tuning Racing SEAT Leon) and the Motorbase Ford Focus of Mat Jackson.
Jackson overcame a fading Newsham to complete the top six and stay in title contention. He will start race three on the front row after Newsham was randomly selected for pole.
Matt Neal, who led the standings coming into the race, charged from 18th into the top six in as many laps, but then had to pit with a wheel problem, possibly caused when he ran wide at Williams.
