Chilton: I'll be quicker than Muller

Rising British Touring Car Championship star Tom Chilton believes he can do a better job at Vauxhall than former champion Yvan Muller - because he thinks he can get more out of the car

Speaking after a test in the Astra Sport Hatch at Albacete in Spain, Chilton told the BTCC's official website that he believed Muller's car set-up was not best suited to the car.

"I tried Yvan's set-up in Spain," he said. "I like a car to be pointy, but he had set it up too far and, like that, you can't roll enough speed into the corners.

"As far as I could see, it wasn't the fastest way to get it around a track. I think I can make it go a bit faster. It will be interesting to see..."

Teammate Fabrizio Giovanardi backed Chilton's comments about Muller's set-up and believed it could just be a legacy of the Frenchman's experiences from ice racing.

"It was technically quite difficult to drive with Yvan's set-up," said the Italian. "There was too much oversteer for me, but I guess he liked it like that because of racing on ice. The car was built on Yvan, but I know some different types of set-up that will suit me better.

"It is immediate to me that this is a very good team and already I can feel the Astra is a good car, but how good it will be with Fabrizio Giovanardi, I don't know yet - I have to see the other competitors and also the UK circuits. I don't know them!"
