BTCC leader Aiello thrilled by 'perfect weekend'

Laurent Aiello is the driver of the moment in the Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship.

The Nissan Primera driver has won six of the last eight races, including the last two races at Oulton Park.

He has a commanding lead of almost 50 points in the Drivers' Championship, and none of his nearest rivals scored any points at Oulton.

'It was just a perfect weekend - two pole positions, two race wins,' enthused Aiello.

'On Saturday, we had a good TOCA test; we prepared for the race very well, which gave us the opportunity to work on our qualifying set-up - except we didn't prepare for qualifying in the wet! Still it worked out all right.

'Plus, all my rivals didn't score; that puts us ahead in all three championships, Drivers', Manufacturers' and Teams - it really was the perfect weekend.'

Looking ahead to Donington, Aiello was quietly confident.

'We tested there two weeks ago, and it was good. We still have some things to cure on the car - hopefully we will get them sorted out for the race.'

His two wins at Oulton mean that Aiello goes to Donington knowing that two wins there would bring him a quarter of a million pounds, the bonus for winning four races over two rounds.

'If I think it's too risky, too difficult, then I won't risk my championship. The championship is the most important thing. Still, if the money wants to come by itself...'
