Aiello snatches Sprint victory
Laurent Aiello snatched the Oulton Park lead in his Nissan Primera, and never looked back
Aiello cruised to the flag to extend his points lead in the Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship over team-mate David Leslie, who came home second.
James Thompson finished third in his Honda Accord.
'I had too many revs, got too much wheelspin at the start and that caused all my problems,' explained pole-sitter Leslie.
That allowed Aiello and Thompson to get past him, and although he found a way past Thompson, he
could never get on terms with Aiello.
The move past Thompson proved decisive; along the pit straight Leslie pulled alongside and went past into Old Hall, but was slow, allowing Thompson to fight back.
The two were side-by-side into Cascades and the fight continued all the way to the Island hairpin, with Jason Plato trying to get in on the action in his Renault Laguna.
Leslie finally got past, but on the run from Island to Knickerbrook Plato got onto the grass at high speed and his race was run, although he managed to limp back to the pits.
Matt Neal was seventh in his Independent Nissan Primera, part of a five-car train involving the Volvo S40 duo of Rydell and Radermecker, the Honda of Kox and Boullion, in the second Renault.
Alain Menu's race only lasted one corner - he got tapped by Will Hoy at the Avenue and shot off onto the grass.
His Ford Mondeo slid to a halt only feet away from the lake, in what could have been an extremely serious incident.
