Aiello criticises team orders
BTCC Championship leader Laurent Aiello has criticised his Nissan team for ordering him not to overtake team-mate David Leslie in last Sunday's Feature race
The Frenchman was furious at works Nissan team Ray Mallock Ltd after pole-winner Leslie led from start to finish to win the Donington Park race.
'We are fighting ourselves at the moment,' he said, after finishing in second place, behind race winner Leslie.
'I don't understand the strategy. I was quicker than David - it was frustrating.'
However, Nissan Motorsport's chief Alec Poole defended the team. 'The house rules say that whoever leads out of the first bend will not be threatened by the other driver.'
Aiello said he was unaware of any pre-determined team orders, before he was contacted by radio during the race.
He is worried the team order may eventually cost him the title.
'I gave away three points by finishing second. Last year I lost the German touring car championship by three points. I hope the same doesn't happen again.'
Leslie made no comment on the team's decision.
