Jackson makes it two out of three

Mat Jackson made it two wins from three British Touring Car Championship races at Silverstone with a close-run victory in the final race of the day

The RML Chevrolet driver made a rocket start from seventh on the grid to move up to third by the second lap, and then put a sensational late move on Colin Turkington to claim second at Maggotts next time round.

He then set off in chase of race leader Rob Collard, who started from pole in his Motorbase BMW, turning a three-second deficit into nothing in just a handful of laps.

He grabbed the lead at half-distance, passing Collard with an identical move to the one he used to claim the spoils in race one and, despite Collard managing his tyres better over the course of the race and coming back at him at the end, hung on to win.

The victory was Jackson's fourth of the season and RML's fifth from the last six BTCC races.

Behind the superb Collard, Colin Turkington finished third in his WSR BMW, increasing his championship lead over Fabrizio Giovanardi to 11 points.

Vauxhall driver Giovanardi, who spent the first half of the race trying to pressure Turkington into a mistake, was demoted a place by the second WSR car of Stephen Jelley near the end, costing him valuable points in the process.

Former grand prix star Johnny Herbert, who started second on the reversed grid, had a disastrous race. After slipping back to sixth at the start, he was spun off the track by Jason Plato early on and retired with the resultant damage.

Tom Chilton was another to exit proceedings through no fault of his own. The Arena Ford driver was collected at Luffield on the opening lap by Andrew Jordan, who was attempting to regain control of his Vauxhall after getting into a lurid slide at the previous corner.
