Knockhill BTCC: Colin Turkington wins again in race two

Colin Turkington ignited his championship charge with his second win of the British Touring Car weekend at Knockhill in race two on Sunday

The WSR-run BMW driver's job was another crushing display. He started on pole position and, although he was saddled with 45kgs of success ballast, he managed to leave the others in his wake.

He was four seconds clear after five laps and then managed the gap to the rest.

"The car was just a pleasure to drive. The car just gets better and better, even with the ballast on," said Turkington.

The result means that he has reined in the points leader Matt Neal and is now only 13 points from the summit, even though he is fourth in the table.

Rob Austin started third and used his rear-wheel-drive advantage in his Rob Austin Racing Audi A4 to motor alongside fellow front row starter Gordon Shedden on the approach to the opening turn.

Austin braved it out to secure the position from the Scotsman and that settled the order in the top three for the remainder of the race.

Shedden said he was pleased with third place given his 36kgs of success ballast and the result was enough to lift him into second in the points.

Turkington's team-mate Rob Collard climbed from sixth to fourth and overhauled the handling-afflicted Jason Plato (MG), who limped home in eighth place.

Plato's woe helped Matt Neal's works Honda into sixth place, but he had to work hard to get to the flag ahead of Andrew Jordan's Eurotech example, which finished in his slipstream.

The number six was drawn for the reversed grid race, meaning Jordan will start from pole position.

In the Jack Sears Trophy, Liam Griffin once again brought his Ford Focus home ahead of rival Lea Wood in his Vauxhall Vectra.
