AUTOSPORT Awards 2013: Andrew Jordan wins National Driver Award

Andrew Jordan capped his British Touring Car Championship winning season by being named National Racing Driver of the Year at the 2013 AUTOSPORT Awards

Autosport Awards

The Autosport Awards are a series of awards presented by motor racing magazine Autosport to drivers that have achieved significant milestones each season. Some of the presentations are selected by the general public via a reader's poll.

The 24-year-old and his family-run Eurotech team defeated former champions Gordon Shedden, Matt Neal, Jason Plato and Colin Turkington to win this year's BTCC after a typically hard-fought contest.

Jordan received his award from Lotus Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean.

"It's been a pretty special year," Jordan said. "Coming into the year the aim was always to win the championship; I thought it was possible and the team did as well.

"We applied ourselves well, but to do it the way we did - going into the final round - was pretty tense. I learned a lot from it.

"The championship is very competitive and next year looks like it might be oversubscribed, which is great.

"I won the title this year and I don't want to let it go, so I'll be working hard in 2014."

After initially making his name in rallycross, Jordan moved through the Renault Clio one-make series to join the BTCC as an 18-year-old in 2008.

He spent his second season with the factory Vauxhall squad, but his career really kicked off when he returned to Eurotech - run by his father Mike, a highly-successful British racer in his own right - for 2010.

The younger Jordan took his first BTCC race wins that season, and edged ever closer to becoming a consistent contender.

Fourth place last year set him up for his spectacular 2013 campaign and a maiden championship crown.
