Weekend review and results round-up

In the space of a week, Mark Webber has gone from luckless outsider to potential world champion, as he carried his Barcelona dominance through to the Monaco Grand Prix and came away with another lights to flag victory

But for many, the big story of Monte Carlo was not Webber's win, Robert Kubica's spectacular form or the continued off-track rumblings about 2011 tyres, but the last corner incident that saw Michael Schumacher pull off an opportunistic pass on Fernando Alonso - whose practice speed and subsequent crash kept him in the headlines all weekend - only to find that the race was still under safety car conditions. The subsequent penalty dropped Schumacher to 12th, but Mercedes is pondering an appeal, so this tale is not over yet.

Monaco also hosted blue riband events for GP2 and Formula Renault 3.5, and all three races saw first-time winners. While Daniel Ricciardo's maiden FR3.5 win was clearly just a matter of time given his form so far, Sergio Perez and Jerome D'Ambrosio's GP2 triumphs were more surprising, as a wet qualifying session on Thursday shook up the order.

In America, a penalty for main rival Jimmie Johnson left Kyle Busch free to win the Dover NASCAR Sprint Cup race, and three-time victor Helio Castroneves was again the man to beat as the build-up to the 2010 Indianapolis 500 commenced.
