Rob Huff moves from Lada to Honda for 2016 WTCC season

Rob Huff will join Honda for the 2016 World Touring Car Championship, leaving Lada to partner ex-Formula 1 driver Tiago Monteiro

Huff's appointment comes as Honda adds a third works car to its programme, for Norbert Michelisz.

After eight seasons with Chevrolet, culminating in winning the 2012 WTCC title, and a single season in a Munnich Motorsport SEAT, Huff joined Lada in 2014.

The Briton won a pair of races in his first campaign with the Russian manufacturer, and finished 10th in the standings each year.

He got an early taste of JAS Motorsport's Honda machinery in Macau late last year, contesting the TCR season finale.

Huff replaces 2009 WTCC champion Gabriele Tarquini in Honda's line-up, despite the Italian finishing fifth in the standings, two places ahead of Monteiro.

"Over the past couple of seasons, I've become very used to seeing the Civic WTCCs in front of me, so it's terrific to have the chance to race one this year," Huff said.

Huff: Citroen leaving WTCC is good for the series

"I won't be happy to finish my career as only a one-time world champion, and there's a tremendous opportunity with Honda and JAS to correct that statistic.

"I raced a JAS-built Civic TCR at Macau last year and it was a very well-built and fast machine, so that gives me plenty of confidence that we'll have a strong season.

"I can't wait to start testing."

Michelisz, who raced a Civic for Zengo Motorsport between 2013-15, also joins Honda as a factory driver.

The Hungarian will compete under the JAS Motorsport banner.

"I have raced Honda machinery for the past three years and it has been an extremely good relationship that has enabled me to win races and take the Yokohama Trophy last year," Michelisz said.

"I'm very grateful and hope I can repay the faith Honda have shown in me this year."
