WTCC Monza: Thed Bjork quickest as Volvo leads Honda

Volvo's Thed Bjork set the fastest time across practice for the World Touring Car Championship's Monza round

The Polestar Cyan Racing man topped second practice in Italy, leading team-mate Nestor Girolami as the Volvos jumped ahead of the Hondas.

Bjork was fast from the off, quickly breaking into the high 1m53s and working his way down to a 1m53.160s by the end of the 45-minute session.

Norbert Michelisz briefly took over the top spot in his Honda Civic, while team-mate and championship leader Tiago Monteiro was also set to improve before going wide at the first Lesmo and had to abort his lap.

Girolami then led the way before Bjork set his fastest lap with just under 10 minutes to go.

Michelisz and Monteiro finished the session third and fourth, while Tom Chilton was the fastest of the Citroens in fifth in the Sebastien Loeb Racing entry.

Nicky Catsburg ensured all three Volvos were in the top six, while Rob Huff was seventh in his Munnich Citroen.

RC Lada driver Yann Ehrlacher, Honda's Ryo Michigami and ROAL Chevrolet's Tom Coronel completed the top 10.

Monteiro was quickest in FP1, despite suffering a puncture midway through the session.

The Portuguese locked up and went on at the Della Roggia chicane with a front-left puncture, but rejoined with 10 minutes to go and went quickest.

Huff lost the rear of his C-Elysee into Variante del Rettifilo and also picked up a puncture.

There was just one such tyre issue in FP2, with Lada newcomer Kevin Gleason picking up a front-left puncture in the first sector late in the session.
