Thompson upbeat after Monza test
James Thompson was encouraged by the progress made with his Honda Accord after he topped the World Touring Car test at Monza yesterday
The Briton was driving his new N.Technology Honda on the Italian circuit for the first time, and finished the day just 0.022s ahead of Tom Coronel's SEAT and 0.028s quicker than Alain Menu's third-placed Chevrolet.
Thompson conceded that the excellent testing form doesn't mean the car is ready to win races yet, but is pleased with their rate of development.
"We had a very good day here and it shows the constant improvements we're making," he said. "We didn't carry out as many laps as other teams because we were making big changes between runs, but it was worth it.
"We know it's likely that others will be more competitive than us on race days, but we take yesterday's result as a good representation of the progress we're making.
"Step by step we'll get back to the level we're used to competing at."
The next WTCC races will take place at Estoril in a fortnight.
