Super Production race: Kox repeats Monza win
Holland's Peter Kox made it two out of two in the Super Production class of the European Touring Car Championship at Brno in the Czech Republic on Monday
The Ravaglia Motorsport driver led from pole to the chequered flag in his BMW 320i, and fended off a first corner challenge from Stefano Gabellini's similar machine which had made a flying start from third on the grid.
On the exit of the first turn, Gabellini was involved in a multiple pile up on the following straight, which involved many of the front running BMWs including his team mate Gianni Morbidelli, Peggan Andersson and Tom Ferrier, the latter having qualified sixth on the grid.
That allowed Kox's team mate Norman Simon to grab second place, although he got hit from behind in the schmozzle and was suffering a vibration problem. He was then passed by the Carly Motors-run car of Duncan Huisman, after a highly entertaining battle.
Huisman closed slightly on Kox, but never got to within three seconds of him.
"I didn't do a good start and it was the same as Monza, everything was happening behind me after the first corner," said Kox. "The car was a bit harder to drive. We set up in between wet and dry settings and overdid it a little bit. I just tried to control the gap as well as I could."
Tommy Rustad was the first non-BMW home and flew the flag for Nissan in fourth place in his Bob Neville-run Primera. He lost his back bumper after a clash with the Alfa Romeo 156 of Tobia Masini, who went on to finish fifth just ahead of the similar car of Luis Villamil.
Edenbridge's James Hanson finished seventh in his BMW, while team mate Ferrier recovered to finish ninth after his first lap spin.
