Super Production: Kox calm amid the chaos

Peter Kox was a dominant victor in the opening round of the Super Production class of the European Touring Car Championship, heading an all-BMW top five

Gianni Morbidelli made a terrible start from pole, allowing Kox to take an unchallenged lead at the first corner, ahead of Peggan Andersson and Norman Simon, the latter straightlining the chicane and demoting Morbidelli further in the process.

While Kox pulled away up front, Andersson and Simon collided at the first chicane on the second lap, the Swede sending Simon spinning off the track. Duncan Huisman took full advantage of the chaos to pass Morbidelli too.

Huisman and Carly Motors team mate Andersson then hit each other at the first chicane on the third lap, with Huisman recovering the quicker to take second. Morbidelli demoted Andersson further when the Swede appeared to miss a gear on the exit of Parabolica.

The Italian was now on a charge and passed Huisman for second at Parabolica on lap nine. But the Dutchman wouldn't let it lie and repassed him in aggressive fashion at the Lesmos on lap 10.

Behind them, Tommy Rustad did his best to upset the BMW applecart by swapping fourth place with Andersson in his RJN Motorsport-run Nissan Primera, but eventually dropped behind both of them.

Edenbridge BMW duo Tom Ferrier and James Hanson finished 10th and 11th after suffering all weekend with below par engines. Ferrier ran as high as seventh before a clash with Guido Kenis dropped him down the order.
