S' Production qualifying: Rustad rocks

Tommy Rustad took his first European Touring Car Championship pole position with a stunning lap of the A1-Ring a full half second quicker than his nearest Super Production rival

The former BTCC Independents' Cup Champion beat all the previously dominant BMWs in British team RJN Motorsport's Nissan Primera as another pair of former BTCC runners, Gianni Morbidelli and Peter Kox, took the next two grid slots in their BMWs.

Luis Villamil and Tobia Masini also got their Alfa Romeo 156s in among the BMWs. Spaniard Villamil will line up fourth for tomorrow's race and 2000 UK National Saloon Championship runner-up Masini sixth. Duncan Huisman's is the BMW in the Alfa sandwich in fifth place.

Young Britons James Hanson and Tom Ferrier qualified 11th and 12th in their Edenbridge Racing BMWs.
