Priaulx takes win and points lead

Andy Priaulx claimed his first World Touring Car Championship victory on home soil with his second win of the season at Brands Hatch

The reigning champion started third on the grid, but leapt to second at the start when front row starter Pierre-Yves Corthals made a bad getaway. Priaulx then passed fellow BMW driver Felix Porteiro on the run to Hawthorns to take a lead he would never lose.

Porteiro pressured Priaulx to the finish to take his first WTCC points since Brno in June, with Rob Huff continuing his strong run of form for Chevrolet with third ahead of the WSR BMW of Colin Turkington.

Yvan Muller and Jordi Gene took fifth and sixth in the diesel-powered SEAT Leons ahead of Jorg Muller, who charged from 14th on the grid to take valuable points in the championship race, ahead of James Thompson.

However, Priaulx's victory now leaves him 12 points clear in the championship after another of his major rivals - Augusto Farfus - was removed in a clash with Alain Menu's Chevrolet as the race resumed after an early safety car period. Farfus crashed into the pit wall, and Menu was soon black-flagged for the incident.

Corthals took tenth overall to take the lead of the Independents' Trophy, while SEAT's Gabriele Tarquini lost out on certain points after retiring mid-race.
