Practice 2: Murphy fights back
Greg Murphy topped the times in a shortened practice session at Bathurst today (Friday)
The Melbourne-domiciled Kiwi was leading the times with 19 minutes left in the one-hour session when a third red-flag incident - prompted by Paul Radisich's Ford being stranded on the track with a broken tailshaft - caused officials to cut the session short.
Murphy's Holden Commodore led the Fords of John Bowe, Mark Larkham and Radisich, but several of the heavy hitters, including Mark Skaife who led the times on Thursday, were just preparing to go out and set a time on
fresh rubber.
Russell Ingall and rookie Marcos Ambrose followed, while under-funded privateer John Faulkner was seventh in his Commodore.
The 41-car field will be split into two groups for Friday afternoon's qualifying sessions, with many drivers predicting times in the high 2m08s bracket.
1 Greg Murphy/Todd Kelly, Holden, 2m11.03s
2 John Bowe/Simon Wills, Ford, 2m11.52s
3 Mark Larkham/Wayne Gardner, Ford, 2m11.79s
4 Paul Radisich/Steven Johnson, Ford 2m11.85s
5 Russell Ingall/Larry Perkins, Holden 2m11.94s
6 Marcos Ambrose/Wayne Wakefield, Ford 2m11.96s
