Muller not bitter over title defeat
Jorg Muller has said he will not leave Macau with any bitter feelings, despite his victory in the final race of the season just not being enough to clinch the World Touring Car Championship title
Schnitzer BMW driver Muller stormed into the lead at the start of the season finale and the title would have been his if title rival Andy Priaulx finished seventh or lower.
In the end Muller was powerless as Priaulx took a hard-fought fifth placed finish - securing his second successive WTCC crown by just one point.
But rather than his near miss on the title tarnishing his performance, Muller has said he will leave Macau happy to have won race two.
"It was a sweet weekend definitely," said Muller. "I didn't have the best chances to win the championship in Macau because I was struggling a little bit at the beginning of the season with my weight situation.
"We were never really quick with weight, but thanks to the team we got the car sorted. The car was completely new so everyone had to learn and we learned it a little bit too late. But I am very happy.
"I had a very competitive car this weekend. Winning Macau with 75kg of ballast is just fantastic and I am also proud to be second in the championship.
"Andy did a fantastic job in the championship this year so he deserves the title."
Augusto Farfus Jr., the only other driver in contention for the title in the final race, was also far from unhappy at seeing his title ambitions fall short. He was challenging for the lead in the second race when he got sideways through Mandarin Bend and swiped the barriers.
"The season didn't end as we had hoped but I did a good job this year and the car was perfect at every event," he said.
"We never had any mechanical problems. I have to say thanks to the team and we must feel happy, it wasn't a bad ending."
