Muller blames Larini for lost title
A disappointed Dirk Muller has blamed Chevrolet's Nicola Larini for costing him the World Touring Car Championship after seeing BMW teammate Andy Priaulx capture the crown
Muller had been running fourth in the first race of the day but was hit from behind by Larini on the final lap. And after his driveshaft broke later that lap, Muller eventually dropped down to 10th.
That left him needing to finish at least second in the final race, but it all went wrong on lap three when he crashed off at Lisboa Bend.
Muller was obviously upset at the circumstances - and could not help but draw comparisons to 12 months ago, when he lost the European Touring Car Championship title to Priaulx after getting involved in an accident.
"I lost the championship last year because of an incident and this time I got pushed out by a Chevrolet," he said.
"I was having a perfect first race and everything was under control in race one when the incident happened quite early in the lap. Then the driveshaft broke coming out of Melco.
"These are things you cannot manage. It is really disappointing but I want to say congratulations to Andy.
"I just hope that Nicola comes to me and apologises. It is not fair."
