Muller achieves Brands targets

Yvan Muller believes he achieved all of his targets at this weekend's World Toruing Car Championship race meeting at Brands Hatch by taking back the lead of the championship and winning his first race

The Frenchman lost the title lead at the last meeting at Magny Cours to Andy Priaulx, but now he holds a seven-point advantage over teammate James Thompson after a win and a fifth place today.

"The most important thing was to take back the lead of the championship and the target was that," Muller said.

"It was very important to win that race too because even if I have victories in other series I didn't have any victories in the WTCC, so it was important to open the score and join the list winners in this series. Now that is done.

"I was just trying to stay on the road today. Midway through the second race I had the oil pressure alarm came on and was a little bit worried so I just tried to reach the finish."

Muller's fifth place in that second race has now been confirmed. There had been a question mark over the result because it looked as if he could have passed BMW driver Dirk Muller under waved yellow flags at Surtees corner.

However WTCC officials confirmed to autosport.com that no action will be taken because no report was received from the marshals.
