Hungaroring WTCC: Bjork denies Tarquini practice clean sweep
Thed Bjork denied Lada's Gabriele Tarquini a clean sweep of World Touring Car Championship sessions at the Hungaroring with the fastest time in second practice in his Volvo S60 Polestar
Polestar's Bjork, who was disqualified from both of last weekend's Slovakia Ring races for an air restrictor fault, had an early lap chalked off for exceeding track limits but recorded the fastest run of the weekend so far on the resurfaced circuit midway through the second half-hour session with a 1m47.525s lap.
Tarquini led the way in the opening session following a late improvement in his Vesta, ahead of Fredrik Ekblom and Norbert Michelisz.
But despite another late improvement, Tarquini fell 0.074 seconds short of Bjork's time in the second session, although he did prevent a Polestar 1-2 after displacing Ekblom from second.
Tom Chilton was the best-placed of the Citroens in fourth, lapping just 0.009s slower than Ekblom in his Sebastien Loeb Racing C-Elysee, ahead of home crowd favourite Michelisz, who had topped Friday's testing session.
Tom Coronel was sixth, while Jose Maria Lopez - who finished the second session seventh quickest - had been on course to challenge Bjork and Tarquini before pitting on his final lap.
Tiago Monteiro, Yvan Muller and Mehdi Bennani completed the top 10 in the second session.
While the first session featured a number of time deletions for track limit violations, only Bjork, Nicky Catsburg and Rene Munnich had laps disallowed in the second session.
