Giovanardi leads Alfa redwash

Alfa Romeo completed its domination of the FIA European Touring Car Championship weekend at Valencia with another formation finish in the second race. This time it was Fabrizio Giovanardi that won from Gabriele Tarquini with Augusto Farfus finishing third

With the top eight finishers from the first race reversed to form the grid for the second, it was the Oregon privateer Alfa Romeo of Salvatore Tavano that started from pole position. The Italian driver didn't even keep his lead until the first corner however as Antonio Garcia, Jorg Muller and Dirk Muller all swept by in their BMWs.

Garcia, on home soil did his best to defend his early lead, and although he was successful at keeping the two Mullers at bay, there was nothing he could do as Giovanardi and Tarquini made their way through the pack and stormed into the lead on lap four.

Farfus took a little longer to make his way through and used some rough tactics to pass Andy Priaulx and Dirk Muller. Jorg Muller, still trying to pass Garcia, tapped the Spaniard into a spin, and as he did so, Farfus nipped by both of them to take third. By this time however, the leading two were long gone.

Dirk Muller eventually finished fourth having chased Farfus hard in the final few laps. Jorg Muller was fifth and Andy Priulx sixth.
