ETCC S’Production: Huisman’s third win

Duncan Huisman scored his third win of the season in the Super Production class of the FIA European Touring Car Championship at the Hungaroring

The Dutchman extended his series lead over Peter Kox by five points, as his fellow countryman rose from fifth on the grid to finish second, just under 2secs behind at the flag. Kox got ahead of Ravaglia Motorsport team mate Norman Simon at the first corner and battled his way past Stefano Gabbelini's CiBiEmme car two laps later at Turn Four.

Simon then attacked the Italian and, after a couple of nudges, whacked Gabellini off the circuit at the first chicane. Stefano resumed in last place, while Norman was given a 10sec penalty, which counted for nothing as he spun into the first corner gravel trap a few tours later.

Tommy Rustad held second place in the early stages in his RJN-run Nissan Primera, but a blown left rear tyre caused him to spin twice and forced him into the pits. Kox was over 4secs behind Huisman at this stage, and never looked like he had enough in hand to catch the leader.

Gianni Morbidelli, who had set the fastest time in practice but had to start last as his team had changed his engine since the previous race, stormed up to third place in his CiBiEmme BMW. The luckless Italian was forced to retire on the last lap, however, handing the final podium spot to team mate Paolo Ruberti.

Peggen Andersson just held off Tom Ferrier for fourth, despite the Brit's best efforts in the closing stages in his Edenbridge-run BMW. With Rustad's problems, Tobia Masini's Alfa was the first non-BMW home in sixth place.
