ETCC qualifying: Tarquini fastest

Gabriele Tarquini will start the first of tomorrow's FIA European Touring Car races from pole position after setting the fastest time in qualifying today (Saturday) at the Nurburgring

His Honda was half a second quicker than Nicola Larini's Nordauto-run Alfa Romeo 156, while Larini's team mate Fabrizio Giovanardi languished in fifth.

Matt Neal was a tremendous third in his privately-run Nissan Primera, ahead of Tarquini's JAS Engineering team mate Fabrice Walfisch.

In the Super Production class, Tommy Rustad grabbed his second pole of the season in RJN Motorsport's Nissan Primeras to head off the massed ranks of BMWs. They were led by Duncan Huisman, Peter Kox and Norman Simon.
