Donington 1: Tarquini heads Alfa 1-2
The intriguing battle between Alfa Romeo and BMW swung in the former's favour at Donington Park when Gabriele Tarquini headed home Alfa team-mate Nicola Larini
BMW duo Dirk Muller and Fabrizio Giovanardi took full advantage of their rear-wheel drive to jump ahead of the Alfas at the start, but touched on the exit of Redgate. Tarquini grabbed second through the Craners on the opening lap and then deprived D Muller of the lead at the Esses.
Larini was up to second by the Melbourne hairpin, but a scrape between one of the Alfas and Giovanardi earned the latter a stop/go penalty for his efforts.
Jorg Muller (BMW) came through from the back of the grid to finish fourth, ahead of Rickard Rydell (Volvo), who passed Roberto Colciago's Alfa for fifth on the final tour.
Britain's Andy Priaulx suffered a collision on the opening lap which punctured a tyre, so he finished well down the order.
