TOUR DE CORSE, DAY TWO IS GO!

Gilles Panizzi is holding his lead of the Corsica Rally as the teams start day two

The Frenchman, dropped from the team after a punch-up with a fellow competitor in Kenya, returned with a vengeance to set four fastest times and lead team mate Francois Delecour overnight.

Richard Burns was fastest on the opening stage, but it seems that the Subaru is currently no match for the Peugeots and Fords that lie ahead. Behind Panizzi and Delecour are Carlos Sainz and Colin McRae, each aiming to close the gap to championship leader Marcus Gronholm. Peugeot's Finnish driver is an overnight eighth, crucially out of the points.

Tommi Makinen holds the final points-scoring position tonight, but his team mate Freddy Loix slung his Mitsubishi off the road on only the third stage, pushing too hard before his tyres were fully warmed up.

Petter Solberg's first event for Subaru was soon over, gearshift problems sidelining the Norwegian before SS2 but Simon Jean-Joseph (deputising for Juha Kankkunen) is currently seventh.
