Stage 13: Burns extends advantage

Richard Burns is proving to be the man to beat on leg two of the Rally Australia

The Subaru star was fastest again on SS13 and is now just over six seconds ahead of nearest rival Carlos Sainz.

As ever, SEAT's Toni Gardemeister is going to be worth watching as the day progresses. The Finn is closing fast on fourth-placed Freddy Loix.

His countryman Marcus Gronholm is also setting some strong times in the surviving Peugeot 206, but is too far behind after yesterday's mechanical drama's to make any real impression. His immediate target is to separate home hero Neal Bates from eighth position.

In Formula Two, Hyundai's Kenneth Eriksson has a comfortable lead over Renault's Martin Rowe, but the former needs his team-mate Alister McRae to make progress if Hyundai are to take the crown.

The team need 1-2 finishes on both the Rally Australia and the Rally Great Britain in order to snatch the last ever F2 world crown from Renault, but McRae is only fifth in class at present.
