SS7, Gare de Carbuccia I: Panizzi tops
The weather played into the hands of Gilles Panizzi and Jesus Puras on SS7, the 11.02km Gare de Caruccia I. Panizzi and Puras were the only two drivers to complete the stage before it started raining with Panizzi fastest and Puras 2.1s behind
Panizzi has now closed the gap to Puras by just over two seconds. But after those two, a cloudburst began to affect sections of the stage and Colin McRae, who set the third fastest stage time was an incredible 25.7s slower than Panizzi
However, with Burns setting the eighth fastest stage time, McRae's Ford now moves up to eighth place overall on the leaderboard, one position ahead of his Subaru adversary.
McRae's team-mate Francois Delecour set the fourth fastest time and still retains sixth place overall, while Petter Solberg and Marcus Gronholm set identical stage times to hold fourth and fifth places respectively.
Subaru young gun Markko Martin was ninth fastest and retains his seventh place overall and Harri Rovanpera, recovering from two front punctures on the Peugeot on SS6, was 11th fastest and completes the leaderboard's top 10.
Italian Pierro Liatti seemed to be relatively unaffected by the rain. The Hyundai driver set the 10th fastest stage time to elevate him two places up the leaderboard behind Rovanpera. His team-mate Alister McRae however dropped two places on the leaderboard, setting the 12th fastest stage time.
