SS4, Te Hutewai: Marcus fights back
Marcus Gronholm retook the advantage on SS4, pulling out nearly a six-second lead over Petter Solberg after setting the fastest time through the 11.32km Te Hutewai stage. The world champion completed the section in 8m03.7s, three seconds faster than Ford's Francois Delecour
Petter Solberg kept in touch with Gronholm after setting the third fastest time, albeit 4.5 seconds slower than Gronholm.
Didier Auriol, nominated by Peugeot to score manufacturer points on this rally after being overlooked in favour of Harri Rovanpera on the previous two rounds, was fourth fastest. And it is fourth overall he holds on the leaderboard as the rally heads back to Raglan for the second service of the day.
Swede Kenneth Eriksson in the Hyundai was fifth fastest and Richard Burns scored his first top six time on Rally New Zealand and moves into the top 10 overall in his Subaru.
