Service C – Raglan: Tommi unhappy

Marcus Gronholm (Peugeot) - rally leader: "Not trying maximum. I'm just driving nicely and not making mistakes."

The team changed the differential mapping in the first service and Marcus is feeling much more confident with his car
(Hyundai) - third, +15.3s: McRae is suffering from tyre wear.

(Peugeot) - fourth, +17.0s: Auriol had a recurrence of the differential problem on SS3, but on SS4 the car felt better.

(Ford) - seventh, +25.6s: "I'm pushing as hard as I can but I am surprised just how far Tommi is behind."

(Ford) - eighth, +26.5s: "We raised the car a bit and went for a narrower tyre and it has worked better."

(Peugeot) - ninth, +37.8s: "The three guys in front (on the road: Makinen, Colin McRae and Sainz) have got completely different driving styles so I haven't got a single, clean line to follow."

(Subaru) - 10th, +44.4s: Burns wasn't suffering a centre diff problem on SS1 it was a mixture of the surface and a soft right front tyre.

(Mitsubishi) - 13th, +1m34.3s: "It's even worse. The first of those three stages (SS2) wasn't as bad because there was a little rain at the start. The last two stages were completely dry and the gravel was about an inch deep. It's a terrible situation. They shouldn't organise this type of rally is they can't make it fair. We're trying to fight for the championship, but we can't even compete for the position."

(Mitsubishi) - 24th, +2m48.3s: "I hit a rock on SS3 and broke something in the gearbox and oil started coming out. I started to lose gears then on the road section to service I lost all gears."
Toni had to push his Mitsubishi Carisma about half a mile into service from the road section, and the Finn just made it on time - he arrived with one second to spare!
