SS2, Vizo 1: Rovanpera takes over at the top

Peugeot's Harri Rovanpera, the winner of last month's Swedish Rally, took over the lead of the Rally of Portugal after the second stage, the first true gravel test of the rally

The Finn, who is currently only running a limited WRC campaign with double world champions Peugeot, blasted through the Vizo stage in 7m57.6s, edging Carlos Sainz's Ford by just 0.5s.

Overnight leader Tommi Makinen was third fastest and is now down to third overall in the overall standings in his Mitsubishi.

World champion Marcus Gronholm is fourth overall, ahead of Richard Burns, who had labelled last night's opening superspecial as damaging to the credibility of the sport.
