SS17, Langley Park: Auriol breaks run

Marcus Gronholm's amazing run of fastest stage times on the second day of Rally Australia was finally halted at Langley Park's Super Special, as third placed Peugeot team mate Didier Auriol pipped him by three-tenths of a second

Despite this, Gronholm has built a commanding 34.3sec lead over Richard Burns today (Saturday), Burns losing a further 1.5secs to the man he is chasing for victory as he could only manage the ninth fastest time around Langley Park.

Although it might only be short, the test gave Subaru's Petter Solberg the opportunity to peg back time on sixth placed Tommi Makinen (Mitsubishi). Solberg's third fastest time was 1.9secs quicker than Makinen's and leaves him just four-tenths behind him in seventh position overall.

Ford duo Carlos Sainz and Colin McRae were fourth and fifth quickest at Langley Park, so they will start tomorrow's final leg in ninth and fifth respectively. Harri Rovanpera was sixth quickest on SS17, consolidating his fourth position overnight.
