SS17: Auriol extends lead
Didier Auriol has increased his advantage over Richard Burns on the first stage of the final leg of the 555 China Rally
The Toyota driver is now 12.9s ahead with five stages to go. He hasn't won a rally since Corsica last year, but Auriol's consistency in the first half of this season means that a victory in China will see him tied with Tommi Makinen at the top of the championship table.
The weather could prove a problem still. The rain is getting heavier all the time and the stages are extremely slippery. Auriol described the wet stages as a 'nightmare' yesterday, but seems to be coping alright so far.
