SS15, Mititai: Richard once more

Richard Burns may have the ideal road position on leg two of Rally New Zealand, but that shouldn't detract from the consistency of his performance on Saturday. The Subaru driver hasn't finished outside the top two on any of the day's stages and recorded his fifth stage win out of seven on SS15, Mititai

The Oxfordshire driver was eight seconds faster than second-placed Colin McRae on the second-longest stage of the day to extend his lead to over 40 seconds.

Francois Delecour was third fastest through SS15, two seconds clear of Harri Rovanpera, but still 10 seconds off Burns' benchmark.

Rovanpera's team mate Didier Auriol rounded out the top five on Saturday's penultimate stage. The Frenchman will be watching over his shoulder on Sunday's last leg as Tommi Makinen is on the move once more. Although slower than Auriol on SS15, the Finn has taken Petter Solberg's seventh place and is now a minute behind the Peugeot driver in the battle for sixth and one crucial championship point.

Carlos Sainz recorded the seventh fastest time, followed by Finnish duo Marcus Gronholm and Toni Gardemeister. Petter Solberg, reportedly having gear change problems on SS15, was 10th and Freddy Loix was in the wars again, taking a trip off the road during the stage, but he was able to continue to post a time identical to Hyundai's Kenneth Eriksson.
