Solberg targets Loeb

Reigning champion Petter Solberg is confident that his new Subaru Impreza WRC2004 will be good enough to end Sebastien Loeb's winning run in the World Rally Championship, according to this week's AUTOSPORT magazine

The new Impreza first hit the test track last November, but Solberg got his hands on the finished product last week before its planned debut on next month's Rally Mexico.

"Enough is enough," said Solberg. "Loeb has gone well, but now it's time for our season to start. This car can win in Mexico."

Solberg drove the new machine over three days in Spain, which he reckoned to have been the best testing he has done in two years. He also believes that his personal fitness will provide a boost in the high altitude of Mexico, which is appearing on the WRC calendar for the first time.

"The car felt very strong," he said. "I know the stages in Mexico are going to be high altitude, which might mean that we lose some of the performance from the engine, but I have been working hard in the gym to make sure the same doesn't happen to me, when we get into the stages."
