Solberg Sr in at Ford

Petter Solberg's brother Henning will drive the third works Ford Focus WRC in the Swedish Rally on February 11, alongside regular drivers Toni Gardemeister and Roman Kresta. It will be the first time the Norweigen has competed for a factory team in the WRC.

Solberg, who competed on selected rounds of the 2004 WRC with Peugeot's satellite team Bozian, has been drafted into the M-Sport team because of his experience of snowy surfaces and his entry will be eligible for manufacturers' points. Kresta's car will not be eligible however due to the Czech's lack of running on the surface, he will be able to score drivers' points however.

"I am so looking forward to the rally and will do everything in my power to deserve this vote of confidence," said Solberg, who last weekend won a round of the Norweigen Rally championship. "I will direct all my efforts towards finishing the rally and scoring important championship points for Ford."

BP Ford team director Malcolm Wilson took the decision following the Monte Carlo Rally, at which Ford took an unexpected share of the lead in the championship after Gardemeister secured second place.

"Henning is a highly experienced driver in winter conditions who has the ability to deliver a good points-scoring result for the team," said Wilson. "This decision also removes the pressure from Roman.

"He has started Sweden just once previously, and now has the opportunity to increase his experience there without the worries of having to concentrate on scoring points for Ford as well."
