Solberg Puts Nightmare Behind Him
Subaru's Petter Solberg is determined to push on in his quest for points after his teams' nightmare Leg One of the Acropolis Rally
The Japanese team's day started badly when they were fined 60,000 EUR because their three cars were found to be underweight after yesterday's Athens Superspecial.
Then Championship contender Solberg went off the road three times in SS2, and suffered driveshaft problems during SS5. Teammates Chris Atkinson and Stephane Sarrazin compounded the problems when they both retired on SS6.
Solberg ended the Leg in 14th. He told Autosport-Atlas: "It hasn't been a great day for us, now we have to fight for more. To lock the diffs you push a button in the car. I did that but the diffs weren't locking enough. My driveshaft broke 8km from then end of SS5 and I had three wheel-drive."
The team is hopeful that both Atkinson and Sarrazin will be able to restart the event tomorrow under Superrally regulations. Sarrazin retired with suspension failure and Atkinson had engine problems.
