Sainz: Turkey Lessons Paid Off

Carlos Sainz believes that the set-up changes he learned on the Rally of Turkey have helped propel him into contention in this weekend's Acropolis Rally

The Citroen driver is currently positioned third after leg one, only 14.0 seconds behind teammate and Championship leader Sebastien Loeb.

Citroen lured Sainz out of retirement to replace troubled Frenchman Francois Duval, who will return to the team after two rounds away at next month's Rally of Argentina.

Sainz told Autosport-Atlas: "I've made small changes to the car today - these are things all learned about in Turkey but didn't have time to change. They are only small things but they are helping with my confidence.

"Today has been a good day. It's nice to come back and not be fed up with having done so many rallies. Just doing two rallies for me just means less pressure, and I can enjoy it more."

Teammate Loeb thanked his Michelin tyres for being out in front.

"When there was less gravel on the road on the last stage of today I was able to push harder because I had the wider tyre," Loeb told Autosport-Atlas. "Before that, I had been a little bit worried that maybe this wasn't the right choice."
