Service F - Imperia: Notes and quotes
Gilles Panizzi (Peugeot), rally leader: "I saw Puras' car in the middle of the road so I took zero risks, then I saw the time of Loeb and I tried to match his speed."
(Peugeot) - second, +35.2s: "It's better uphill with the five-speed gearbox than downhill. On the fast downhill sections I have to think a lot."
(Citroen) - third, +36.1s: "I'm quite comfortable with this speed. I am fighting Didier but I want to finish. I'm not taking risks. I used my tyres quite a lot on the long one (SS7B) and on the last stage the starter button was broken so I couldn't risk spinning."
(Ford) - fourth, +1m05.0s: "I clipped a rock in the first kilometre of the last stage (SS8) and I got a puncture (on the left front)."
(Peugeot) - fifth, +1m06.4s: "We made a small modification (joking about his crash on SS7). I was just too fast into a corner and we hit a small wall. The wheel was at an angle so I had to try and push it back into line."
(Ford) - seventh, +1m26.3s: "We softened the front anti-roll bar a little and it helped a little."
(Subaru) - eighth, +1m29.9s: The power steering on his Subaru Impreza was locking up on the morning's first stages.
(Peugeot) - ninth, +2m05.8s: The former Ford works driver is in a 2000-spec 206 WRC. "The dampers are too soft. We'll stiffen it now."
(Ford) - 10th, +2m51.4s: "The diffs are still not working. It doesn't look like there is anything we can do. We clipped a rock on the last stage and got a right-rear puncture."
(Mitsubishi) - 11th, +2m53.8s: "The car is now working alright. But we are missing speed in a lot of places. Quite a lot of work to do." Asked if he can still score points in Sanremo he said: "If two cars go missing on every group of stages, maybe we have a chance."
(Subaru) - 17th, 6m43.0: The Estonian crashed on SS7B. "I had braking for a corner marked wrong in my notes. It was a really fast right-left into a tight right but bumpy. I hit the brakes but the car took off and there was no chance to slow down. We hit a wall with the left rear of the car which spun us around and then we hit the front as well. The rear suspension is really badly damages and it has been moving around a lot."
(Subaru) - retired on SS7: "I don't understand it. The tyre just came off. I turned right and the wheel turned left. All the studs were broken."
