Service D-Mundaring: Notes & quotes

Colin McRae: (Ford) - rally leader: "Those three [stages] were a bit better. Maybe they were a bit more flowing and suited the car better."

(Peugeot) - second, +0.3s: "I feel I can go faster, but I'm still not too happy with the steering. It feels like it's moving around a lot during the stages."

(Subaru) - third, +1.6s: "I had a bad vibration halfway through SS4, because the mousse broke up in the front tyre."

(Peugeot) - fourth, +8.6s: "I took a more open tyre cut and a softer compound, but it was worn quite badly. I also feel the gearbox ratios might be a bit long for the softer gravel."

(Subaru) - seventh, +1m00.8s: "In the first of those three (SS4), my tyres weren't really right. Th second one went well, then on the third one I lost a few seconds when I lifted on a straight and shouldn't have done."

(Ford) - ninth, +1m29.3s: "We hit a little post after 15km [on SS6] and then the tyre was rubbing on the body work and some little bubbles of oil caught fire." The Frenchman put out the fire and continued without problems.

(Ford) - 11th, +1m42.0s: The Spaniard arrived at the service area with very heavy right rear damage and a police escort. He said: "I hit a post and bent a bolt in the rear suspension. The tyre was off line and on the road section it caught fire. We put it out and tried to take the tyre off, but it was very difficult. Eventually we managed it and I think we can continue."

(Hyundai) - 12th, +2m05.7s: "We're just trying to carry on as quickly as possible, but the problem is tomorrow's going to be exactly the same."

(Hyundai) - 14th, +2m21.1s: Struggling from running high up the order and clearing the way for the frontrunners: "I'm feeling happy with my driving, but where will I be on the road tomorrow? Probably not much further down than where I am now."
