Rally GB: Solberg leads!

Subaru's Petter Solberg has leapt into the lead of this weekend's Wales Rally GB after storming through the penultimate stage of the final leg 9.2s quicker than his rival Sebastien Loeb (Citroen). It means the Norwegian leads the rally by 5.7s over the Frenchman with just the Cardiff Docks superspecial left to run

The breathtaking stage win means Solberg has all but put his name on the winner's trophy with only a disaster threatening what will become a hat-trick of wins for the Norwegian on the Rally GB.

Ford drivers Markko Martin and Francois Duval were again the best of the rest as they cemented their positions of third and fifth overall respectively. Peugeot's Harri Rovanpera set the fifth best time, ahead of Carlos Sainz in the Citroen, Daniel Carlsson's Peugeot and Mikko Hirvonen's Subaru.

Manfred Stohl was again the best of the privateers and the Austrian Peugeot 206 driver is now up into eighth place overall after Mark Higgins stopped on the stage with just a few kilometres left to run. It's not clear whether he will be able to get going again, but hopes of securing the final points position have been swiftly erased.
