Rally GB: Loeb defends

Citroen's Sebastien Loeb has added another 1.3s to his overnight lead as he and reigning world champion Petter Solberg (Subaru) do battle on the final leg of this weekend's Wales Rally GB. After the first test of the day Frenchman is now 8.6s clear of Solberg with just three stages left to run

Loeb now has a 8.6s cushion over the Norwegian following the 30km Rhondda stage, which drivers will have to repeat on the next stage - SS17. As the two fight it out for top honours, they left the rest of the field well and truly behind them, best of the rest was Ford's Markko Martin, but the Estoninan was 14.4s off the pace.

Martin has extended his third place ahead of Citroen's Carlos Sainz, while Ford's Francois Duval is a safe fifth place.

Peugeot's Harri Rovanpera has gone clear of Subaru's Mikko Hirvonen after dispensing with the Finn on Saturday.

Privateer Mark Higgins has maintain his eighth place in the Ford Focus WRC.

The second stage of the day - SS17 kicks off 10:46BST.
